Moremi Game Reserve is one of Africa’s most beautiful and diverse wildlife reserves, located in the eastern part of the Okavango Delta in Botswana. Covering nearly 5,000 square kilometers, it was the first reserve in Africa to be created by local people, established in 1963 by the Batawana community to protect wildlife and natural resources.
Moremi combines permanent waterways, floodplains, lagoons, forests, and savannahs, creating a rich ecosystem that supports an incredible variety of wildlife. The reserve is home to the Big Five, except rhinos are rare, along with large populations of elephants, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and over 500 bird species. Famous areas such as Chief’s Island and Xakanaxa offer outstanding game viewing, while mokoro canoe safaris, boat trips, and guided game drives provide unforgettable safari experiences. Visitors are drawn by its untouched wilderness, luxury safari camps, exceptional predator sightings, birdwatching, and the chance to experience both land and water safaris in one destination, making Moremi Game Reserve one of Botswana’s top safari attractions.
