Central Kalahari Game Reserve is one of the largest and most remote game reserves in the world, located in the heart of Botswana and covering over 52,000 square kilometers of the vast Kalahari Desert. Established in 1961, it is known for its endless open plains, fossil river valleys, rolling grasslands, and untouched wilderness that offer a true sense of isolation and adventure. Despite its dry landscape, the reserve supports a surprising variety of wildlife, including black-maned Kalahari lions, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, springboks, gemsboks, wildebeests, zebras, and many bird species.
The famous Deception Valley is one of the park’s top attractions, especially during the rainy season when wildlife gathers around the green plains. Visitors are drawn by exciting game drives, dramatic predator sightings, stargazing under clear desert skies, cultural experiences linked to the San Bushmen, and the rare chance to experience one of Africa’s last great wilderness areas far from crowds and modern development.
